The Face That Waits Beyond the Trees

He stands between the fading light and time,

A figure pressed against the thinning air,

His features worn like stories never told,

A quiet weight of all that linger there.

The trees behind him stretch like empty hands,

Their branches bare, their voices long withdrawn,

A world that seems to hover out of reach,

As if it waits for something long since gone.

His eyes do not quite meet the living world,

They drift between what was and what remains,

A space where memory settles in too deep,

And leaves its mark like soft, unspoken stains.

There is no anger resting in his face,

No sudden grief that breaks into the light,

Just something steady, something deeply still,

A presence shaped by years that held on tight.

The air around him feels both near and far,

A fragile line between the now and then,

Where time forgets to move the way it should,

And circles back to find him once again.

I wonder what he carries in that gaze,

What quiet roads have led him to this place,

What names he holds that no one speaks aloud,

What truths have settled into every trace.

And still he stays, as if he must remain,

A guardian of something we cannot see,

A silent witness to the passing days,

A thread that binds what was to what will be.

So I stand still, and let the moment breathe,

Not daring yet to turn or step away,

For in his silence there is something clear,

A truth that does not need a word to stay.
