6 Uncommon Ways to Self-Care
There have been numerous think pieces plastered online to share tips on how to properly "self-care." In efforts to attend to our mental and emotional wellness, we’ve been advised to take long, soothing bubble baths, journal, read our favorite book, or simply spend time with nature. Ahimsa
Okay, let's start at square one: what in the world is "ahimsa"? Friends, Romans, Countrymen, let me introduce you to a beautiful concept I discovered recently. Ahimsa is the concept of compassion to all living things. It comes from Sanskrit "himsa" which roughly translates to "injury" or "harm". Ahimsa is the opposite of this. So, "to cause no harm or injury."

What Do You Want to Do With Your Future?
Lifestyle What do you want to do with your future?? What do you want to be when you grow up, or what do you want to do with your future? These questions are commonly asked to us by friends and family members. But why? This question gets us thinking deeper and deeper into time and life. This question can constantly linger in the back of our heads and eat you away late at night. I hate this question, because I feel like it takes away from our present-day life until we are on our death bed. For those worrying about this question, I simply say don't! There is so much more to your present life than there is worrying about the future, especially in your 20s.

Work Will Still Be There Tomorrow
As I watch the sun kissed popplers sway in the morning breeze at the campsite, I see families pack up their belongings to head back to their lives. For some, this weekend was an annual vacation. For others, it may have been the last time they'll be together as a family before they tell the kids about the divorce tomorrow. For the couple in the cabin, it may be a last hurrah to see if they still have any remnants of a flame to spark the fire back to life in their relationship. For the family in the green tent this may be their last trip with Grandpa before he's no longer able to get around on his own. For the family in the tan camper, it may be a celebration of Sammy's graduation and their Mom just wanted all the kids together one more time before he leaves for college. And maybe Sarah's in the blue trailer and her husband works on the road so she left the kids with Grandma so she and Dan could have some one-on-one time. Because of life's crazy schedule they haven't been able to find any alone time in awhile and they aren't sure what's left of their marriage.

Finding Myself as a Twenty-Something
In my teens, I didn't like to be alone. The idea of being alone, while everyone else was out enjoying their lives, was too much to bear. I couldn't imagine the idea of being single forever or not finding someone to love me. For a long time, I didn't think any person would find me more than just strictly attractive or someone to bang on a Saturday night.

Just No More
I want to live in a world where we are not judged by the color of our skin, or by the kind of music we listen to, or where we grew up. I want to live in a world where it is okay to be seen in public in sweatpants, messy hair, and no makeup; where we are not defined by our mistakes, but by our goals and successes.

The Sad Truth
It was a normal day when I decided to walk to the nearest Family Dollar. I had a few essential things to get. Most times I go to HEB but today, Family Dollar. As I walked up to the cashier to pay I noticed she seemed depressed and tired, like life wasn't going her way at all. The question just came out of me, "You seem tired, are you okay?"

Hello everyone! Life is weird, isn't it? You are told to that you have to do things out of obligation just so you can get to where you want to be or do what you want to do. Moving...
It’s that time again. The sight of brown, the feel of stickiness, the ragging chaos of personal belongings being packed away. Total emptiness suffocating me. This is what moving feels like. I’ve moved around many times. It was nothing new to me. The only difference was that I would be moving across the country; leaving family, friends, and a life I’ve grown to love. This would be a new experience. “You get to start over,” I was told by my loved ones. With only the best interest in mind, I agreed to leave my hard work behind to start fresh. With an open mind, my family and I packed up, venturing off to California for a new start.

Navigating the World of Becoming an Adult
As the first day of summer arrives, many kids all over the globe are starting their long-awaited break from the overbearing pressure of school. Public pools are packed with screams of utter joy from the children who are usually half asleep at their desks most of the year. Summer seems to be that time in childhood where the restraints from school and parents finally seem to wear off. A few years go by and it’s finally time for high school graduation. It seems to be time for the ultimate summer break. If high school wasn’t the best time of our lives, college must be even better, right? Living on our own and making our own rules, living life the way we have always dreamed. No mom and dad always looking over our shoulders telling us what to do. For the first year, maybe two or three, it’s so fun to finally feel like we can do whatever we want. That’s when it hits. We can do whatever we want. After 18 long years of someone constantly telling you where to go, when to do things, what to wear, it’s finally up to us. It felt freeing, but now all we feel is lost.

Why It's Okay Not to Care
What We Can Learn Ever been told that you’re not good enough? That your work just isn’t quite right or that you’re not qualified enough for a job? We’ve all been there. It’s a part of life and we are all going to experience rejection in some form or another. If I’m honest, we need to experience it. We need to know what it feels like to be put down because it is the only way that we are going to get back up again. But, do you know what the most important thing we can learn from rejection is? Not to care. We don’t need to care about what people think, and do you know why? Because it’s our happiness that matters the most. Not someone's idea of it. Believing in ourselves is the greatest means for success. If we care about what we do and if it means something to us then everyone else’s opinion should be just that. An opinion.
