Getting to know music artist SAMBO
SAMBO, also known as Chikki Kush, is originally from the beautiful city of New Orleans, Louisiana. Throughout his childhood life, he faced different measures that would then have him and his family stationed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for a vast amount of years. Inspired by life in the trenches and experiences from living in two major cities in Louisiana, SAMBO is an artist full of emotion, culture, and passion. In his pre-teen years he practiced the art of poetry where he learned so much about how to orchestrate words and thoughts into one. Mastering the key elements of a poem soon became a science to him which soon motivated SAMBO to take further steps into making real music of his own. This was a challenge to fulfill a big dream when others chose to become involved in sports and/or careers that you needed extreme experience for. SAMBO grew up and became heavily influenced by a variety of down South legends such as The Hot Boys, Soulja Slim, Lil Boosie, UGK, Outkast, Three 6 Mafia + many more. You can describe SAMBO's word play as gritty, grimy, pain-filled, and lyrical. The "grit" sound is one main thing SAMBO brings during his song creation. It is hard to grasp when you first hear someone saying they're making gritty music, but when you listen to SAMBO, you truly understand why he's making a difference in the midst of today's sound. SAMBO's passion for music comes from industry tier artists along with local artists where he resides/ from. He has been creating for 6 years. Many would expect an artist to gravitate away from the drive of being a rapper during the long duration time. Often your peers would expect you to reach the top quickly, but he's in the business for longevity, not for the spark of fame. Although he doesn't have a favorite artist, he says everyone he takes time to tune in with has a solid tune that can stick with him and they create relatable music to his life. He uses music as a way to escape and release emotions. He describes music as therapeutic and a way to connect with a wide audience. To SAMBO, music has become one of the easiest gateways to create genuine relationships with fans and other creators. "I love the music because music is power, it's just a flow of different vibrations and sounds that can create imagery, change feelings, change movements, overall, make a change period. Music has always been changing things whether for the good or bad" SAMBO says. He connects to his network by feeding his fans and followers quality content, interacting with all of them, and promoting other artists in his city to his continuously growing fan base. In the meantime, SAMBO has a series of projects lined up for release while working on various content. SAMBO is also the owner of clothing brand “Nine Lives” that includes Men's and Women's fashion. Giving back to the community is one way SAMBO will better cities no matter what city it may be. Plenty things are going for him and there is so much more greatness to come. SAMBO sees himself doing these same things within the next 5 years, at a more powerful level and consistent rate that can open the doors for others to become entrepreneurs. The world urges us to watch as SAMBO expands all across the globe. It's a great thing to see happening during his young career. He intends for others to learn from his music when they listen to a lyrical story that may be told over the 808's and hi-hats of a fire beat. He specifies he wants others to listen to his music and be able to know what their next move would be or turning nothing into something with the power of the brain. Believing in yourself is the only way to make it to the next level even if others may not. These are some of the life lessons you may apply to your life once you hear a SAMBO track. With hard work and dedication he strives to be one of your top go-to independent artists. Thanks to independent record label LARecordz, SAMBO is one of the missing key factors in the industry and southern region.

1 on 1 with Queen’s finest Rai Smith
What’s your artist's name and where are you from? Rai Smith from Hollis, Queens, New York Why do you love music? Music is communication. I love that sometimes the best way for me to describe what I'm feeling is through song. It’s a little weird but melody and sonic energy can often translate feelings a little bit better than a regular conversation. Music gives me a chance to say things that might not be the easiest for me to say. When I get behind a mic, it’s therapy. There are no limitations, there’s nothing holding me back, it's like the mic is amplifying my mind, soul and body to relay the message. I can be honest without ridicule because it’s my art. I honor and respect my process; sharing it only feels right.

People Who Inspired Me To Be A Writer: Ice Cube (rapper/filmmaker)
As a writer I draw inspiration from almost every avenue of art and life. My biggest influences for writing mainly come from film, literature, and music. When it comes to music I'm a nerd so I can pretty much enjoy almost anything and I'm respectful of every form of music that exist. The genre of Hip Hop is one of my favorite forms of music and when it comes to rappers, my top favorite rapper of all time is west coast Hip Hop pioneer, Oshea "Ice Cube" Jackson. Ice Cube as he is known to most is not just my biggest influence in Hip Hop, but also one of my biggest influences as a writer and storyteller.

Why I love the Queen
Here, in Britain, there has been an awful lot of celebrating going on this weekend, June 2022 as Queen Elizabeth II reaches the monumental milestone of having served 70 years on the throne. 70 years! Bunting has been raised aloft and glasses raised. Beacons have been lit on historical monuments (safely, of course) and concerts, displays and parades organised. Street parties have been held and a lot of good cheer has been shared the length and breadth of the British Isles. It has brought people together and it is timely with the years that have been spent virally apart to gather and revel with re-found freedom.

Madonna was my mentor
Madonna was my life coach. In the 80s, whenever I felt stuck and unsure what to do next, I asked a simple question: what would Madonna do? As a shy young journalist and later as a fledgling magazine editor, it guided me through awkward situations, and allowed me to borrow some of her courage when I had none of my own.

Ode to Betty White
What’s not to love about the cute, funny, warm, lovable, always smiling, always positive, always optimistic, Betty White? I first got acquainted with her during the original airing of The Golden Girls that my Mom would watch back when I was a kid.
