Your Birthday Isn't Important
I have a poor relationship with my birthday. It doesn’t mean a thing to me; it never did. No one ever really cared for mine, apart from my family, of course. No one went out of their way to make sure I was remembered. And I didn’t like telling anyone because to me, surely, if I was important to any extent, I and my birthday would be remembered without question. I get it, people forget things, but my mum made a list of all my old primary school “friends” (it’s complicated) and their birthdays so we made sure I didn’t forget them. But everybody else was apparently remembered and celebrated by their friends, so why not me?

Let Us Make Man
I have held many titles and positions over my professional career and personal life. One of my most rewarding titles is a Servant Leader; any good effective leader must be a servant first. I have no shortage of confidence but no self-aggrandizement either. Additionally, I have an abundance of gratitude to those trail blazers who came before me; and I acknowledge, my help comes from above.

When it Rains it Pours
The rain broke the silence as my pickup tore through the puddles on the road. Wipers slapping across the wind shield on the fastest setting barely kept a visible path on the glass. My eyes should have been on the road, yet I would catch myself glaring over at her with a dumbstruck grin and wild admiration. Her green and brown eyes looking up to meet mine, with a soft smirk creeping from one corner of her mouth to the other. There was no direction or destination in mind, we flipped a coin at every intersection to decide where our adventure may lead. There was nothing overly exciting or even outwardly noticeable between the two of us, but there was a quiet laughter and a certain comfort that I had never experienced before. It wasn't magical by any stretch, but somehow mysterious and enchanting in its own unique way. The unknown taunted us on a dismal dark evening. Two people, strangers a few short weeks before, sit in silent contentment while The Gaslight Anthem hums quietly across my speakers. In my own dark saturated mind, I felt every emotion in the spectrum inside one single, solitary moment.

Home Alone: Should You Live by Yourself?
Often considered an important milestone for young people in their 20s, most people will live alone at some point in their lives. However, with rent and property prices skyrocketing this option is becoming increasingly distant for many. Should we really aspire to live alone for a period?

90 Miles an Hour
He could feel the cool evening breeze in his hair, 90 miles per hour, windows half rolled down in his late model pickup. It was a cool brisk evening for the middle of summer in upstate New York, he reached under the seat to make sure his father’s service revolver was still there, it had been a gift from his father on his deathbed. The wind from the window dried the blood on his face, he lights a cigarette and realizes that his clothes were still soaked with blood. As he saw the city lights disappear in the rear view he felt the cold beads of sweat as they ran down his neck. As the streetlights disappear and the yellow lines become mere dots on the highway, he feels overcome by emotion. Why did I think any of this was a good idea?

A Timeless Love
Him: ...happiness never comes when it has to. Her: I'll be happy about these moments, so important, who knows when- Him: A long time ago, I kissed a girl. I felt nothing but a bitter flesh taste. The taste of a hand, like I kissed just a simple hand.

When I Loved an Expectation
A few years ago during a visit to my grandmother's house, in another state, I met a guy who I thought would be my soul mate, I would not say love at first sight but there was something about him that got me. He looked so handsome wearing those dreadlocks. They made him look more interesting, free, a rebel compared to the other guys around. Although he did not live in the village, I was told he was a constant presence there because his father owned a farm somewhere nearby. After exchanging a brief glance we would only see each other again four months later. When I went back to visit my grandmother a party took place in the village on that exact day I arrived. The village named after joy itself, Alegre, was an incredible place, far from the city and full of beautiful things. As soon as we saw each other my heart beat so fast that I could barely breathe, but I greeted him anyway. We spent that night talking, finding out we had a lot in common. Is it strange if I say that I remember each word said during our conversation? I simply loved everything about him, his twisted smiles, his shyness, his sense of humor. I still consider our first kiss the best of my life, after that, none had the same magic. The way things happened just made me fall in love in such a spontaneous way that I only noticed how much I liked all that fuss when I got back to my hometown and could not find any blank spaces in my journal anymore to write how much I thought about him.

What Humans Should Know
Wouldn’t it be great if we could all enter the world with a manual of “how to” instructions? Perhaps it could be called “101 Ways to Navigate the Highways and Byways of Life Without Becoming Road Kill.” The human baby could start reading the tutorial in the womb and then hit the ground running — so to speak.

5 Questions You Should Ask Yourself Before You Decide You've Found 'The One'
On July 1st, 2017, I said "yes" to the love of my life when she proposed that we spend the rest of our lives together. And on July 7th, we celebrated our 8 month dating anniversary. I know what you're thinking... "That's too soon! You should get to know each other better before making such a life altering decision!" Believe me, we've heard it all. Let me assure you, however, that unlike some poorly thought out decisions I've made in the past, this is a decision I'm 110% sure about. There was no hesitation or doubt in my mind whatsoever. I already knew.
