Grad School Application Guide
I'm just going to start this off by saying this is far from a perfect and complete guide for applying to grad school, much of what I have here is picked up from various other guides online. This is just the tips and tricks that I have learned so far in my planning to apply. Don't stop your research here but please feel free to use this as another resource. Now, hello. I'm Kris. I'm an English major and an Education major and I'm applying to graduate school at the end of this year. Yeah, November/December of 2018 and I'm working on it already. I am a first generation college student and I have to admit, it's pretty overwhelming to figure out everything yourself. I've made it through community college and I am doing well at University but I have to admit, when it comes to turning in grad school applications, I feel totally overwhelmed. There is a lot of work to do before turning in all those applications and because of the really, really, really, low acceptance rate at most graduate schools, I want to be as prepared as I can be. So here is what I'm learning:

Confessions of a Teacher
My title is completely fictional, I work in a before and after school program, a nonprofit called Tiger Club. When I started there in May of 2017, I worked with the 3-year-olds, and it was fun and challenging. I love arts and crafts and so it became my job to find something creative for the kids to do, (easier said than done) mostly coloring and finger painting, playdoh, and sometimes even slime. But, as the summer came to a close, I was moved to another class room, to work with kids in second to fifth grade.

Going to Uni Just to Leave Home—Worth It?
I am no stranger to feeling like the black sheep everywhere I go. Yes, I have a loving family and a solid network of friends, but like thousands of other people like myself that are at the age of being "not quite sure" and "in between," I have always felt like there is something greater out there than what I have now. Whether that be more money, better friends, a more beautiful place to be, or more meaningful relationships with those around me, I've always wanted something more, but never quite known how to get to it.

Being a substitute teacher is hard work. As a former full-time elementary school teacher, I was reminded of just how hard it can be to teach a class that isn't your own when I transitioned from teaching full time to becoming a stay at home mom and subbing part time. As a teacher, I had excellent classroom management skills. I think most of this was because I built relationships with my students. As a sub, I don't have time to build those relationships, so it is essential to start the day off on the right foot. Here are a few ways to start the day positively as a substitute teacher.

School Conditions in Mobile County Public Schools
The Mobile County Public School System in Alabama is quite horrendous. I understand some people don't feel this way. This is just my personal opinion. Some people say conditions in the schools of Mobile County are fair and fine, though in my opinion they are horrid and don't care for students at all. I have found maybe one or two teachers that actually care about the future of their students, that actually help their students with certain programs to make their future better. Those teachers are the golden standard of how I, a student, feel teachers should act.

Why University Is Perfect For Those Who Hated School
I won't lie to you all. I LOVED SCHOOL. Mostly, I loved being able to spend every second of those six hours with my best friends since I lived out of town and couldn't see them much out of school hours. I enjoyed learning and managed to find the perfect mix of mischievous banter and getting on with my work that I, for the most part, stayed on the good side of my teachers.

Every Book Lover Needs to Know About This Website
I have been obsessed with books for as long as I can remember. For roughly the same amount of time, I’ve been skeptical of used books. Sure, they’re interesting and mysterious in theory, but I didn’t know where they had been, whose hands had touched them before me! I always preferred the smell of new books to used, giving me the illusion that I was the first one to ever discover this story, the first one to ever enter this fictional world.
