Dragon Stone
The sun glistened over the oak and pine trees as frost lingered on the forest from the night before. The mountains were only sprinkled with snow creating a luminescent glitter along the ridge. If one were to climb on top of the mountain, one would see the valley where the villagers resided. This was known as the world of Magia Terra meaning “Magic World '' this is, of course, just a small portion of it. The province of “Valley Ridge '' The villagers were often referred to as “Ridgers” Ridgers were a peaceful people and were one of the few provinces that still lived in peace with the Dragons. The dragons were some of the largest dragons in Magia Terra. Dragons are more peaceful than people have thought over the centuries, they were similar to those of bears from earth. You do not bother them and they do not bother you. It was a common practice for the Ridgers and the dragons. It was one of the fewer provinces that M still had not influenced. Ridgers believed that the true heir of the throne was Cyrus. M was learning magic at a young age, but then she had turned into the dark side of magic. She started to create a group of followers. M had killed Cyrus’s parents and Prince Cyrus was forced to flee. He knew that if M had the chance she would kill him too, he snuck out of the castle as tears poured down his face knowing he would not be seeing his parents again and that he was alone. M had wanted to kill Cyrus because he would be next in line on the throne. So as a six year old Cyrus was surviving on his own he met his horse. He barely made it, when the sun had shown down on him and he was chosen to be a guardian to protect Magia Terra and since the age of six Cyrus was training to be a guardian with the Elder guardians. The guardians were humans which possessed magical powers to help protect Magia Terra from evil including M. M had taken over the castle and since then her black magic had infected the land around the castle. The land became dead and unusable. The bricks of the castle had slowly over time become black like coal. The elements chose someone worthy to wield their power. The guardians would gain their magical powers by exposing themselves in the elements. Cyrus was blessed by the element of the Sun, so every time he was outside and the sun was shining his powers would recharge. One day Cyrus would step up to M and he would be the rightful king once more and the world would be back in order. This brought hope to the people. Rumors of him starting an uprising were floating giving more hope to the people of the valley.

Comfort in Reading
Growing up, the thought of reading bored me. My two older sisters would have their nose in a book while I tried to entertain myself. The idea of reading even a 25 page book made my stomach churn. Then, I discovered Harry Potter, I watched the first movie when I was about 9 years old. Afterwards both my sisters agreed that the book was far better. I could not believe this until I picked up the book and read it in a week for me that was a very short time period. I was hooked I found myself reading the next, the next until I was looking for more to read.

My Dog Gives Cookies
I saw this vocal challenge and an immediate thought entered my mind; the time my dog gave me a cookie. You’re probably thinking: “yeah okay” in the most sarcastic tone possible. Most people think chihuahuas are vicious little barking four-legged menaces in my case that is so the opposite of accurate, it makes me laugh. Nacho is my chihuahuas name it fits him perfectly. He is not too small for a chihuahua as I have seen smaller. My chihuahua is the type of dog who asks to be let out simply to bark at nothing for thirty seconds and then is already begging to come inside the house. He is the sweetest little dog ever and he is even alive to this day. Around this time I was still living at home since I was in high school. It was the year 2011 and I was the last one of my siblings to be still attending high school. Having siblings can be a tricky subject and I tend to have a sweet tooth. I had bought myself a pack of chips ahoy but not the regular pack. It was the chunky chips ahoy, which is even better. I hid them in them in my room for fearing that my sisters would find them and eat them all before I had even one, so this time I would not be making that mistake again. I Kept them in one of my larger purses and once in a while I would carefully peel back the wrapping and carefully without making any noise sneak a cookie into my mouth while studying. The purse where I kept my cookies was kept on the floor by my desk.

Comfort is a Funny Word
Comfort is a funny word. The simple word is already a feeling of relief. I am sitting on a beach, I can feel the warmth of the sun hitting my untanned body. I have nothing to do. Call me lazy sure, but the doing of nothing is the best feeling in the world. I took off my watch, not paying attention to the time as it flies by. That is the best feeling. Having no responsibilities no where to be just to sit on a beach. The sand between my toes as I repeatedly dig my feet in and slowly raise them to the surface. The smell of sunscreen is everything that I need to remind me it is summer. Having a mojito brought to me and then the salty taste of chips and the satisfying crunch is perfect. The smell of the ocean reminds me that freedom is still here with me, I do not need to try anymore. I do not need to hide my body or be ashamed of who I am. I have no one telling me what I can and cannot wear, it is just me being free. No worries in the world. The job is so far I forget that it exists, I no longer have to think and problem solve. I don’t have to think, I am so irresponsible and it feels so great. This is what it feels for retirement. No commitment. The only thing I have committed to is to do nothing. My phone lays beside me in my purse untouched for hours. I look out to the ocean and the rolling waves are imperfect yet the sound is everything I need.

Comfort
Comfort: a word that means happiness. No longer hugging oneself or stroking my own arm. Comfort means the smell of fresh coffee beans and the sound of the grinding in the manual machine into smaller bits for you to drink and me to smell. Bitterness turns me away, with scrunching my nose and your low giggle, yet you drink it with a sigh.

There’s no Such Thing as a 50/50 Relationship
You, the reader are probably wondering what you mean there’s no equality in a relationship. Well, it’s true especially if you’re in a straight relationship and have “old-fashioned” values. I will strictly talk about myself. I have always wanted children and a marriage to a man. That’s something I have always dreamed of when I knew what marriage was. I pictured myself walking down the aisle with my future husband to be wearing a long white dress and throwing my bouquet into the gaggle of women. Here’s the reality though a man who wants a family cannot expect his wife to work a job while taking care of children and making dinner. That’s not 50/50 a true 50/50 relationship would look different. The woman would work half the time and the other half taking care of the children. The man would be expected to do the same. That is clearly not the case, most women are expected to come home from work, make dinner for the family, make sure the children do their homework, do the laundry and put them to bed. It’s true you could ask your husband to help out, but the woman does all the housework while the man goes to a football game or goes to his basement den. The expectation is too high, yes a single mom can do all those things. I am not saying it’s not possible to do those things but every partner in a relationship has roles they will fall into. Maternal instinct still exists and when a mother hears her baby crying she wants to comfort him or her as best she can. In most households, it’s common for a woman to go to work the same as the man. But this usually happens after her children reach an age where they are capable of taking care of themselves. Then, what usually happens is that the woman comes home makes dinner and cleans up while her supposed equal other half is sitting on the couch watching the game. Where is the 50/50 in that relationship? It does not exist.

The Train of the Lost
I could hear the familiar noise of a train track, the wheels turning against the metal track, and the whooshing noise of the train passing various sites and going into tunnels. Why was I on a train? How much did I have to drink last night? I did not have that many drinks…wait where was I last night? How could I not remember, my vision was slightly blurred as I slowly opened my eyes. I felt something beside me, they were a pair of rectangle frame glasses, I put them on my nose and I sat up to face an empty green velvet seat across from me. I was the only one in the cabin. That’s odd, there must be a ticket here somewhere. I searched my yellow puffy coat and there was no ticket in there either, then again I was not sure if that was my coat, but there was no one else in here other than me, so the probability was high. I poked my head out of the cabin, it was silent other than the running train. Was no one else on here? I started to walk down the narrow hallway when a girl came towards me, she wore a yellow sundress and was barefoot, she had bronze golden hair and a black hair clip on her left side. She approached me.

Beware the Cabin
The cabin in the woods has been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. The cabin was isolated from everything and away from wandering hikers, most people avoided it as many bears wandered the area. Tonight, though, tonight was different as the candle meant that someone was there and they were not supposed to be…and terrible things happen to those that do visit. A lone hiker with his german shepherd dog who had got lost off the trail stopped by, he wore a red plaid shirt that was torn on his upper sleeve by a branch earlier and a gray vest with a hood on top. His hair was brown with woven strands of gold and auburn almost fall colored. His eyes were tired and copper hued. The stairs creaked with warning as he took a step towards the door of the cabin. The man walked onwards and with a crumbling thud one of the stairs broke making a hole where his foot stood. He stumbled a bit but caught himself and went for the door. The door was left ajar and it made a soft groan as it slowly swung in the slight wind. His dog followed the man behind him. The dog sniffed the air and let out a whimper of fear. It was odd that a candle would be burning like this though.

Summer Salad Recipe
Summer, the smell of sunscreen and a combination of barbecued steak fills your lungs and you can hear the swishing of the waves of the nearby ocean or lake, and you can feel the heat turning your body into a tan with freckles appearing on your nose. The air is filled with laughs of children playing outside and the sound of suburban men opening up beers with the click and hiss as they chat with their buddies while standing by the barbecue. Women are enjoying their fruity cocktails while sitting down in their summer hats. Dogs happily chase their tails or their favorite toy as a bike goes by ringing a bell. This is what summer is to me(at least one version of it). Another version of summer is sitting by the campfire singing songs the the guitar roasting marshmallows and staying up late eating smores and then later admiring the stars and falling asleep to whispers of goodnight (that would be the second version of a great summer).
