What I Want
A poem about getting what you want

I got what I wanted and,
Now that I have it,
I realize,
It wasn’t what I wanted.
I built my dream and,
Now that I’ve built it.
I realize,
It wasn’t my dream.
I achieved financial freedom and,
Now that I’m free,
I realize,
Nothing changed.
I collected power and influence and,
Now that I hold that,
I realize,
I am more alone.
I rose to the top,
Now that I’m there,
I realize,
It’s nicer near the bottom.
I fought relentlessly,
Now that I’ve won,
I realize,
It was the wrong fight.
I won every award,
Now that I have them,
I realize,
I don’t care.
I read many books,
Now that I’m smarter,
I realize,
I know nothing.
I thought about what this means,
And it still changed nothing.
That pisses me off.
