a storm is coming

the sky is dark, the air thick and heavy

and my bones

my bones can feel it coming

my grandmother used to say

she knew a storm was coming because

she felt a soreness in her hips

and she was always, always right

water is a powerful, magical entity

and above all, cyclical

for the water threatening to fall from the sky

once flower through

a river

an ocean

a garden hose

my grandmother’s hips

today I feel a soreness in my hips

as I wait for the storm clouds to roll in

and I am ever grateful for aging bones

and for the privilege

of being part of the universe
