By Joe PattersonPublished 9 days ago 3 min read

Jabarie and Joe are cleaning up their stations as they prepare to clock out from their shift at Bojangles. “Yo Jo Jo can you give me a ride to crib when we get off? My moms got the car and she workin’ later today” Jabarie asked. “Ah boy” Joe sighed playfully. “First off, how far do you live and am I gettin some gas money for this?”

“Yeah I got you” Jabarie assured. “Plus I don’t live far, I stay just down the street.” “Aight, I got you. Just let me pack some food to go before we slide.” “You got my pan of Bo-berries comin’ Jo Jo?” Stacy called from the front. “Yeah I got you” Joe replied. “Jo Jo, go head and hit yo theme song for when you start bringin’ up the biscuits” Jabarie laughed. Joe jokingly began rapping his mock lyrics as he started bringing up the pan of Bo-berry biscuits.

🎶Same old ish, just a different day. Out here tryna get it, each and every way🎶

🎶front line needs some chicken, drive thru needs some biscuits🎶

🎶Jo Jo and Jabarie here so they bouta to get it🎶

🎶Run em’, run em’, run em’, run em’, HOT PAN🎶 Jabarie laughed while joining in.

“Ace Hood might be in trouble if we get in the studio and drop that Bojangles mixtape” Joe joked as he and Jabarie continued cleaning up their stations. After they finished cleaning they both went to the front line register where they used the kiosk to clock out. As the duo got in Joe’s car and buckled up Joe assessed his messy ride.

“Don’t say one word about my ride bein messy or I’ma leave you right here and make you walk home” Joe asserted. “I ain’t trippin’ about yo ride bein’ messy, I ain’t even got one so what can I roast” Jabarie laughed. “Well you’ll get some wheels under ya heels soon, Barie, so what’s up with the next dance show?”

“Well me and some of my bros doin a few shows in a couple cities in the triad soon.” “Oh yeah?” Joe began. “Are y’all gonna record it? Maybe chop it up and put it on the book?” “Of course” Jabarie answered. “We puttin’ it on all platforms: the Book, Snapchat, the Gram, even Tik Tok.” “Aight superstar” Joe replied. “You gon’ make it big time one day. Before long we’ll be seeing you in the biggest music videos and I’ma look back and tell all the females yo I used to work with him at Bojangles.”

“Jo Jo you won’t need to tell them you know me. You’ll have enough of them old women following you on the book.” Joe laughed while making a quick turn that took him on the highway. “You know that turn was illegal?” Jabarie observed. “If 12 had seen that you would’ve got pulled over and sent to the pen.” “Boy I ain’t scared of no 12. Plus they ain’t catching me in this 99’ Honda it might look old, but trust me it can book it and what you mean by them old women?”

“All of the post you put on the book be mad smart Jo Jo” Jabarie laughed. “Every time I see one of them post I be like Jo Ho be stoeytiming them old heads. My boy gon’ get like three goldie oldies off this one.” Joe laughed as he noticed how long it was taking to get to Jabarie’s house. “Don’t be roasting my post and I’m mad at you for lyin. We been driving for like 13 minutes. You ain’t live no just down the street” Joe laughed. “”It’s down the street to me” Jabarie laughed.

“Look there it is right there” Jabarie pointed out. “Joe pulled up to the house at the end of the street to let Jabarie out. “Aight Jo Jo, Preciate the ride homie” Jabarie said as he got out of Joe’s car. “It ain’t no thing, hey, I’m proud of you brotha. Keep doin ya thing with your dancing. “You already know.” Jabarie concluded as he and Joe bumped fists and parted ways.

Dedicated to the memory of my friend Jabarie Bracey who passed away two weeks ago. Love you brother
